FAQ

Attendees of the Men's West Coast Fall Knitting Retreat, Point Bonita, CA November, 2008

The Process:

Once you express interest in the project, the first request will be to fill out the survey.  This will give basic information about you and your demographic as well as specific questions related to you and your knitting and experiences.  Once this information is gathered, further questions will be sumbitted to those who are representing states.

What are the submission requirements?

 - Completion of the survey

 - Submission of all release forms (granting approval for use of your story and submissions in the project)

 - Submission of copyright free photos of the designer, his hometown, work, studio, etc. (whatever images you want to submit to help show who you are and illustrate your town or state)

 - Submission of a pattern for a blanket square designed by you and representative of your state

For those of you who have never designed before, don't get scared!  The square can be simple or complicated and is pretty much up to you! - I will lay out ground rules that specify size, yarns, and limits the colors - from there, you'll have pretty much free reign to create as needed.  The pattern(s) will end up in the project and you'll knit and send one square to me for assembly into a large blanket consisting of everyone's squares.  There are others involved who are familiar with writing patterns and they have offered help with pattern writing if it gets complicated for some of you.  Don't worry about that quite yet - there are a few other steps before we get to that...

In the end, you will be representing your state and telling your story... sharing the truth that guys who knit are varied in their histories... and once published you will be a part of contemporary American history in this collection of stories sharing what it's like to be a man who knits in America.

If you're interested in being a participant, or if you have any questions at all about the process, please email me.  Be a part of this historic project that will, once completed, be a snapshot of contemporary male knitters in the United States!

Thanks!
